A Big Dipper loss

I was out at an event honoring Dr Joshi, the CEO of my hospital. Sugar Sammy was the headliner. I was dreading the BC election results. Adrian Dix would have been terrible for BC and Canada.  As we all know , the BC liberals are a coalition that  is there to fight the left. I am not a Christy Clark fan  and the BC Conservatives self destructed. So the coalition to defeat the socialists held. I hope Premier Clark will be true to her speech at the Manning center a few years ago. She sounded quite conservative and reasonable that day.   I guess I should always listen to my friend Ken Boessenkool who told me that she could pull this off.
So though I am not a big Christie Clark fan, I am very happy that the dippers have been defeated!!! I am also reminded that pollsters in this country have not been very accurate if late. I am reminded of the statement of HM Prime Minister Diefenbacher who said http://www.conservativeforum.org/authquot.asp?ID=225>
... dogs know best what to do with polls.</>

Premier Clark seems to have lost her own seat. I hope she rethinks some of her positions, but today I offer my http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2013/05/14/bc-election.html>congratulations.

Senator Doug Finley

I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Senator Finley. He was an amazing man. He was always very kind to me. He used to [undeservedly] say I was Canada's best blogger. I last saw him at the tribute dinner to him last year. I knew he was very ill, but it is still a shock. He worked tireless to elect our party to power , because he believed that would make Canada a better place..I will miss him. My deepest sympathies to Diane and the rest of his family.

Ottawa, Ontario – After a courageous public battle with cancer, the Honourable Michael Douglas (Doug) Finley, died in Ottawa, Ontario, on May 11, 2013, age 66.

He was married to the Honourable Diane Finley for over 30 years. Born in Exeter, UK on July 25, 1946, his parents quickly moved him to Scotland to ensure that he was “raised properly.” Doug attended the universities of Strathclyde, Edinburgh and McGill. He emigrated to Canada in the late 1960s.

An avid soccer fan, particularly of Glasgow Celtic and Manchester United, he began his professional career at Rolls-Royce Canada in Montreal, where he quickly rose through the ranks to senior executive levels. He moved on to serve as President of Standard Aero, and Senior Vice President of AvCorp Industries. Later in his career, he worked as General Manager, and Chief Operating Officer of Fernlea Flowers in Southwestern Ontario.

In March 2004, Doug Finley was appointed Director of Political Operations of the newly-formed Conservative Party of Canada, and was the engineer behind the 2004 break-through in Ontario for the Conservative Party. He then successfully engineered and led the Conservative Party to victory through the 2006 and 2008 general elections as National Campaign Director.

In August 2009, Doug Finley was appointed to the Senate, representing Ontario South Coast. He chose the regional designation of Ontario South Coast to reflect his particular interest in the area of southwestern Ontario along the north shore of Lake Erie.

He was a member of numerous international boards and the recipient of many honours including Honourary Lifetime Member of the Ferry Command and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

He is survived by his wife Diane; his daughter Siobhan (George Desypris) of Montreal and three grandchildren, Willem, Erin and Emma; sister Maureen (Dave Todd) of Calgary; brother James (Shu-mei) of London and Singapore; his father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Muriel Dennis of Booth’s Harbour.

Attempted Terror in the Great Dominion

Recent immigrants to Canada seem to have been in an attempted to attack innocent Canadian civilians. They seem to be educated and from North Africa. The jihadi threat seems to ignored by the liberal left and especially the news media. We need to be very strict in screening those ho want to come to Canada and I say that as an immigrant to Canada. Thank God the alleged jihadi scum were found out. I urge my Muslim Canadian brothers and sisters to be vigilant and to report those who would do harm , as all of us are morally obligated to do, regardless of our faith or lack of it. Police identified the suspects as Chiheb Esseghaier, a resident of Montreal and Raed Jaser, a resident of Toronto. They were arrested Monday morning and are facing criminal charges including conspiracy to carry out an attack against, and conspiring to murder persons unknown for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with a terrorist group.

Muslim Canadian Congress condemns Boston Terrorist Attacks

April 19, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA - The Muslim Canadian Congress offers its deepest condolences to the victims and families of terrorism during the Boston Marathon.

We condemn this cowardly and barbaric act of terrorism without reservation. We consider this action as a crime against humanity.

Every time the media reports a terrorist attack, the world's law abiding Muslims hold their breath and pray, "Oh God, please, let it not be a Muslim."

“Regrettably, after four agonizing days, we find out yet again that this senseless slaughter was committed in the name of Islam,” said Salma Siddiqui, President Muslim Canadian Congress.

The actions of the Boston terrorists should force us all to reflect on the dangers of mixing religion and politics.

The Al-Qaeda inspired terrorists have successfully usurped the Islamic narrative and are using faith as their rallying call. And for too long politicians have pandered to Islamist organizations in the name of political correctness. It is time to collectively take on these organizations which thrive in our midst, while seeking to undermine our civilization and curtail our liberty.

“The MCC urges Muslim throughout the world to fight the terrorist cancer, which if not confronted, will affect the entire body of human civilization,” said Tahir Gora, Secretary General Muslim Canadian Congress.
